Islip Chamber of Commerce Volunteer Weekend
For a Better Community, this is the slogan that is at the core of the Islip Chamber of Commerce. This past weekend, our volunteers over the course of two days assisted various groups in the community with projects that truly reflect aspirations of a “better community”.
On Saturday April 29, Keep Islip Clean held one if it’s busiest weekends of the year. Keep Islip Clean held it’s flagship clean up on Brook Street and the Islip North Community Watch Group cleaned a large portion of Spur Drive and Commack Road. Keep Islip Clean reported over 50 volunteers at their Brook Street site clean up and Islip North Community Watch had over 30. The results are clear and visible when you drive down the streets that have been cleaned.
On Sunday, the Chamber came together to join forces with our community’s greatest asset; our veterans to help clean their American Legion. We are grateful to members Bulls I BBQ & Roxy’s Ice Cream for donating lunch and a delicious treat.Various groups from the community came to help in the effort including Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Legion Commander Roby Johnson declared the clean up a great success and thanked all those involved.
Said Keep Islip Clean Executive Director Nancy Cochran:
“I’m both impressed and inspired by the good work volunteers accomplished this weekend. They cleaned up along Spur Drive South, Commack Road and the Brook Street wetlands. Those were just the bigger projects which included close to a hundred people making Islip cleaner and greener. We also had scouting troops, civic groups families and friends doing their own smaller projects throughout Islip. We have so many caring people in this town, who take time from busy schedules to volunteer in their community. KIC is proud to support them all.”
