Since our establishment in 1924, the Islip Chamber of Commerce has been a witness to remarkable growth and transformation within our community. From a humble beginning with a population of 2,300, we have now surpassed 10,000 residents. Our educational system has advanced from a solitary school accommodating all grades to the presence of separate junior and senior high schools, complemented by three elementary schools. Significant milestones include the establishment of Islip Airport, which has become an integral component of our local infrastructure.
In 1924, law enforcement relied on just three individuals, and our library was a modest room within the school premises. Today, we take pride in our well-equipped fire department, a flourishing library supported by a substantial budget, and an exceptional hospital boasting nearly 320 beds.
The landscape of Main Street has witnessed notable transformations, with numerous businesses thriving both then and now. The increase in commuting to New York City reflects our community’s expansion and connectivity. The philanthropic contributions of local estates, such as the Havemeyers, have greatly enriched our town, illustrating the collaborative ethos that defines us.
For over six decades, the Chamber has played a pivotal role in steering the progress of our hamlet. As we embark on the next phase of our journey, our commitment remains steadfast to enhancing the quality of life and work in Islip, nurturing its prosperity and charm for future generations.
