Happy New Year!!!
As we ring in the New Year, we also bring in many new Board Members and changes for 2015. I’d like to start by introducing myself as the new President of the Chamber. I have been a Resident of Islip since I was only a few months old and I am an alumni of Islip High School Class of 88. I have been very involved with our community as Past PTA President, Girls Youth Lacrosse Director, IYLL Coach, Board Member Islip Children's Endowment, Girl Scout Leader, Founder of the South Islip & South Saxon Community Watch Groups, etc. I own Kennedy L.I. Real Estate with my husband, which is located on Main Street in Bay Shore across from Southside Hospital. My husband and I are high school sweethearts and have 3 girls currently attending Islip School District. As you can see, Islip has and continues to play a very special role in my life and I aspire to continue to do great things for this community.
With that said, I am excited to be entrusted with this new role. The dynamics of our “NEW” Board are outstanding and we have many new ideas and visions that we are anxious to start implementing. So stay tuned!!!!
The last quarter of the year was a very busy month for us. In October we sponsored the Fall Window Painting in town. Mrs. Knoblauch from the High School and some students / Jr. Chamber Members were scattered throughout Main Street and Route 111 to paint fall art on local storefronts. We hosted Trick-Or-Treat on Main Street, with hundreds of people flooding town to trick-or-treat. Our monthly “Meet & Greet” was held at Marconi Manor with a packed house of businesses and residents in attendance. November brought forth our annual decorating of the street posts throughout town. In December we had a fabulous Holiday Gala with our 2015 Elections. December also had a variety of events that the Chamber hosted. The Annual Santa Parade – The Annual Tree Lighting & Christmas Caroling at Town Hall – and of course, Light The Night. We participated in the Islip Arts Council’s “Deck The Halls” by sponsoring a Christmas Tree. On January 6th, the proceeds from the “Taste Of The South Shore” event were presented as a donation to 911 Veterans to help them support Long Island Veterans in need.
While all this was going on with the Chamber, our Jr. Chamber Of Commerce has also been hard at work with Ms. Liz Hicks as their Advisor and Mrs.Renee Clock assisting, as well as being their community liaison. Food drive for November was very successful. They collected over 50 boxes of food which was all donated to a local church. ”Teens for Jeans” has started through the 2nd week of Feb. Hundreds of Jeans are collected for local homeless shelters. So if you’re planning some Spring cleaning of your closets, now is a great time to do it! The Jr. Chamber will also be helping the Islip American Legion to help fold "pocket flags" for soldiers deployed. Once the flags are folded, they will be sent to active units and are small to fit in their pockets to remind them of home. The Jr. Chamber also participated in Deck The Halls sponsored by the Islip Arts Council helping different organizations decorate their trees!!
I look forward to seeing you at our next meeting!!
